IN ADDITION TO OUR REGULAR MEETINGS

Please find attached the invitation being circulated for the Tree Canada Community celebration event.

The Town is very pleased with the Petawawa Horticultural Society partnership and facilitation of this unique collaboration.  We hope to see as many members as possible at the event.

April 13, meeting with Mark Reinhart from town office. Grant received to buy and plant 15 trees.


Our annual plant sale will be held on May 20th/2017 at the Petawawa Civic Centre from 8:00 to noon

We will be having a second plant sale on May 27th/2017 in conjunction with the Heritage Village Settler's Day also starting at 8:00 for unsold plants from our first plant sale.


A memorial tree for Brenda Termarsch will also be planted. Family has requested a red oak and this will be planted behind St. Francis of Assisi School. Planting will take place on May 26st/17 at 11:00 

Digging to be done by Civic Centre Staff.

Club would like members to be there in force for the planting.


On  June 2nd/17 cranberry bushes to be planted at the Fish Hatchery. Irene will help organize.


We will be doing 4 planters.

Tuesday December 6th, 2016

The Horticultural elves (Peter, Connie, Mimi and Mireille) were busy decorating a tree for Independent Grocers in Petawawa. Thanks to Dale for the sumac, Lois, Jean, Irene, Peter and Micheline for the new decorations.

Thanks to the generosity of Smitty's Hardware, we joined force with the Town of Petawawa and planted 300 Canada150 tulip bulbs at the Centennial Park Gazebo and around City Hall. Watch for them in the spring.

Saturday October 29th, 1:00 p.m. at the Voyageur Statue corner Laurentian Drive and Petawawa Blvd, was a windy and rainy day. Our Society planted many daffodil bulbs. Thanks to the brave souls Irene & Jack Van Gemeren, Lois & Dale O'Brien and their grandson Patrick, we will be greeted with wonderful cheerful colour in the spring.

September 24th 2016 at the Heritage Village Fall Harvest event.

Thanks to our gardeners:Jean & Bert, Lois, Irene & Jack, Rachelle and Micheline our Fall Harvest table was bountiful.

Also a big thank you to Dale and Katherine for helping man the table.

A big THANK YOU to Connie for hosting our annual Wine & Cheese party. Great camaraderie! Beautiful evening with our members as well as meeting new people! Thanks to Donna the food was great! The wine was flowing! Good time was had by all!
We also awarded our Trillium Awards to Kerry McDonald, Linda & Jim Sylvester, Phyllis & Royce Slater and Jennifer & Rodney Carmichael. 

Our society would like to thank Kathleen from Hubert's Nursery for her great plant selection.  We requested plants that could tolerate a bit of frost.  Great success Kathleen!

At the Petawawa Cenotaph, another beautification project in collaboration with the Town of Petawawa (supplying the vases) and the Petawawa Horticultural Society (supplying the flowers and the manpower). Thank you Irene and Jack for all your help.

The Luck of the Draw


Glenergy was the first winner of our summer planter donations.

Congrats!

June 25th, 2016 at the Petawawa Heritage Village Car Show.

We sold plants, handed out sunflower seeds to plant for our feathered friends and also handed out butterfly weed plants to help those beautiful creatures.

Thanks to all the member who came to give a hand.

A special thanks to Rachelle for starting the butterfly weeds from seeds and to Lois for transplanting all the hostas.

What a great afternoon.  Camaraderie, sunny day and NO BUGS.

Members of the Pembroke Horticultural Society joined us for lunch at Madameek followed by a very informative walk along the Emerald trail with naturopathDr. Katrina Traikov ND.

Members our society with the help of the City of Petawawa and 4 classes of grade 2 students from both St. Fancis of Assissi and Valour schools and some Dads, planted 12 fruit trees in the walkway leading to the schools.  Thanks to all for helping us beautify our area.

On behalf of the Young Gardeners' Club Katie Barkley, director of the club donated hundreds of marigold plants to Katelyn Schubert of the Petawawa Public Library for their fund-raising MARIGOLDS FOR MOM event May 4th to 7th.

Each marigold will be planted in a decorated flower pot.

What a great gift for Mom!

Our members Jack Van Gemeren, and Ron Needham spend an afternoon with some terrific children and their caring teacher.

They presented a short slideshow about soil, the children seeded various vegetables.  The weather was beautiful so out we went and planted a cedar tree .

Our booth at the 2016 Seedy Sunday in the Rankin Community Center

What a fun day!  We handed out over 300 Alfalfa Sprouting Seed envelopes, met some wonderful people, attended educational / entertaining presentations,bought some heritage seeds and some locally grown organic veggies.

The Petawawa Public Library kindly set up a table for us to participate in the Cabin Fever event and promote our new Young Gardener's Club. Thank you so much.

We handed out close to 70 envelopes of Alfafa sprouting seeds.

Met lots of nice people, beautiful children, and had a good time.

In attendance: Dale Morris, Micheline Thalmann, Cherry Munn, Lois O'Brien and Irene Van Gemeren.

The elves were busy! The tree is up! We enjoyed a candy cane as our reward.
